Meet Michael Diaz, poster child of our fu#%ed up legal system at work. The 34-year-old Chicago area resident has been convicted of driving without a license for a record 17th time!

What’s that you say? That’s not a record? Someone, quick, call those Guinness guys! No, not the two old farts that think everything is “Genius”, the guys with the record books!

According to the Chicago Sun Times, “Michael Diaz hasn’t had a valid drivers license in 14 years — and now the Aurora man faces a prison term that could be twice that long after being convicted Thursday of driving on a revoked license.

The 34-year-old Diaz faces such a hefty punishment because his conviction marks the 17th time he’s been caught driving on a revoked or suspended license, Kane County prosecutors said.”

This guy is a regular boy scout, let me tell you. According to the Sun Times,”Diaz was charged following a Sept. 27, 2009, hit-and-run crash in Aurora that he allegedly caused while driving a friend’s car, authorities said.

At the time of the crash, Diaz already was on probation for a 2006 aggravated domestic battery — and he now faces re-sentencing for that offense as well, prosecutor Danielle Bechtold said.

Diaz remains free on bond pending his sentencing — though he still is barred from driving.

“Hopefully, he didn’t drive away from the courthouse today,” Bechtold said Thursday.

The conviction marks an abrupt change of circumstances for Diaz, who was charged in 2007 with two long unsolved Aurora gang murders.

But Diaz was acquitted of one 1995 slaying and charges against him for a second 1995 murder were dismissed, authorities said.”

If convicted, Diaz faces a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in prison. Diaz left the courthouse today without comment
